Dr. Cheryl Brown Davis, after forty years of teaching vocal music at every level is retired and lives in the Northern Neck of Virginia. She taught elementary and secondary vocal music in Virginia, Michigan, and Minnesota, and was Assistant Professor of Music at North Dakota State University. She was a frequent festival adjudicator and conductor for District and State events in Virginia from 1980-2015 and served as vocal adjudicator for "Fiesta-Val" from 1983-2017.
Dr. Brown Davis serves on the Artistic Board of the Northern Neck Orchestra, is organist for St. Stephens Episcopal Church and currently directs the Chesapeake Chorale. Since 2013, she has performed Celtic Music regularly at Grace Episcopal Church. She joined the Rappahannock Music Study Club in 2011 and served as Vice President from 2013-2017 and Chapter President from 2017-2021. She is the Virginia State "Jazz" Committee Chair and State Chair of "Together We Sing". She was elected President of the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs in June, 2021.
Dr. Brown Davis received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Madison College, where she studied voice with Dr. Gordon L. Ohlsson. She earned her Master of Music in Voice Performance and Choral Conducting from the University of Michigan where she studied with Harold Haugh and Maynard Klein. She completed a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Virginia and directed the Glee Club there, being the first and only woman to do so in the history of the Club. Dr. Brown Davis has one son, Dr. Andrew West, who is a professional bassoonist. She is married to Bill Davis and enjoys gardening, sports and travel with her husband, and membership and service to genealogical societies and community service to Veterans.
