VFMC Mary Smart Competition
Junior Performance: Instrumental
The Mary Smart Preliminary Competition is held yearly in conjunction with the Federation Festival. Students who meet the eligibility requirements may enter. Auditions require the students to perform their current year required festival pieces before judges. Preliminary competition is held in each of the 3 districts and winners automatically advance to the Finals Auditions which are held during the Annual VFMC Convention.
The Mary Smart Finals will be held on Junior Day, April 28, 2018, at the VFMC Convention to be held at the Holiday Inn -Tanglewood, Roanoke, VA
Students who have earned at least 3 superior ratings in piano at an NFMC Festival. Superior ratings do NOT have to be earned consecutively, but students must have earned a superior in the present year. First place winners at the state level may not compete again in the same division level. Teachers may not submit entrants if they do not personally teach them.

(Awarded to one student in each division who does not place but who, the judges feel, shows outstanding ability, great potential, and is worthy of the encouragement which a special award brings.)

Mary Smart Preliminaries - Information & Application
District I Preliminaries: Auditions are scheduled for March 24th at Parkway House of Prayer, 3230 King St., Roanoke, VA, beginning at 2:00 pm. Information and application forms will be mailed to District I festival chairmen. Application deadline: March 15th. Contact Tanya Graybeal ((540) 598-6373) for additional information.
District II Preliminaries: Auditions will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Manassas Baptist Church, 8800 Sudley Road, Manassas, VA. Contact Marcia Chaplin for additional information. Application deadline - March 28
District III Preliminaries: Auditions will be held on Saturday, March 24th, 2018 at Ewell Hall, College of William & Mary in Williamsburg.
