The Virginia Federation of Music Clubs’ Margaret Hunt Vocal Biennial Award was established in 2018 to honor Margaret Hunt of Manassas, Virginia.  She was actively involved in the Virginia Federation for many years and established and served as Manassas Area Festival Chair for forty years.  This award will be given by the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs biennially in even-numbered years for young vocalists to encourage the development of their vocal talents.

Junior Vocal Performance

Applicant must be the following:

  1. a student in high school

  2. a native citizen of the United States of America or have received naturalization papers

Entry fee

$25

Awards

  • First place - $300

  • Second place - $150

Deadline for applications

April 1

A video recording of the entrant performing one vocal solo demonstrating vocal skills. Judging will be based on vocal quality, presentation, the vocal demands of the composition, and overall musicianship. The recording must be submitted as a private YouTube link and sent via email to the VFMC Hunt Award Chair. It can be recorded using a smart phone or a tablet if video components are of high quality. The video should include the entrant’s name, the title of the composition, and the name of the composer.

Mail the application and $25 entry fee to the competition chair, Debora Madsen, (check made payable to VFMC) and send an email to her that includes the link to your private YouTube performance.
